How horse years work
Horses mature fast early: the first year is about 6.5 human years and the second about 13 (a 2-year-old horse is roughly 19). After that, each horse year is about 2.5 human years. Many horses live 25 to 30 years.

Life stages
Foal to yearling (0-2)
Rapid growth, weaning, early handling.
Young horse (2-4)
Training and development begins.
Adult (5-15)
Prime working years.
Senior (16+)
Watch teeth, weight, and joint health; adjust diet and workload.
Why it matters
Knowing the human equivalent helps set realistic expectations for training, workload, and care. Senior horses need dental checks, easier-to-chew feed, and joint support.
